I think that we need to be very wary of assisted-suicide laws, for instance. Assisted-suicide laws, if you look at, as I mentioned earlier, Oregon and Washington, they’ve remained unchanged for a decade. But, if you look at the Netherlands, as an example, that has a longer history.
Suicide is really embraced in the Netherlands. Just recently, they expanded the laws, in which case, a child of 12 can independently decide that his life has no value. And if he is evaluated by a physician and a psychiatrist, and it is, indeed, he is suffering—note the word “suffering,” not “pain” here—he can and will be able to control the end of his life; meaning, he can get a lethal prescription.
There was the first double-suicide in the Netherlands, in which deaf and going blind twins, they were allowed to commit suicide at the same time. It was the first joint suicide in history. And this is being championed as a great thing.
